What is Bitmo?

Bitmo is a social gifting app for friends! There’s a little something for everyone whether you want to shop new gifts, redeem or exchange your own cards, or celebrate a friend’s special occasion on the social feed.

Where can I use Bitmo?

Bitmo features popular retailers from all over the U.S. including Nike, Nordstrom, Old Navy, Regal Cinemas, Macy’s, Sephora, Petco, GameStop, Panera Bread, Chipotle, Yard House, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, and many, many more. Gift cards can be used online or in-store unless otherwise-noted by the retailer.

Where can I download Bitmo?

Bitmo is available as a free download on the App Store and Google Play Store. It’s not available on desktop at this time.

How do I create an account?

Create an account in seconds with your name, phone number, address, and date of birth. Your personal information will never be shared publicly in the app.

Is my account information secure?

We’re committed to protecting your security through the use of bank-grade encryption technology. Bitmo collects personal profile information in order to verify your identity and protect you from fraud. It will never be sold to third parties.

How do “Free Gifts” work?

Bitmo’s “Free Gifts” promotion is a referral program that allows you to invite friends to Bitmo by sending a $5 gift card upon signup. To send free gifts, make sure you have the latest version of Bitmo from the App Store or Google Play Store and log in.

  1. Tap “Free Gifts” from the side menu.
  2. Allow Bitmo to access your phone contacts when prompted.
  3. Select gift recipients.
  4. Tap “send gift” and let Bitmo take care of the rest.

Your gift recipients will receive instructions on how to claim their gift via email or text.

What is the free gift?

Gift recipients will receive a $5 gift card to one of Bitmo’s retailers. Although the retailer changes regularly, recipients can always exchange their welcome gift for another retailer upon acceptance.

All advertised “gifts” will be delivered in the form of an e-gift card via the app. For example, a “Free Gift” promotion for “one free Panera Bread cookie” means recipients would receive a $5 Panera Bread e-gift card. Bitmo does not guarantee the availability or pricing of any retail or food/beverage item for any of its retailers. Such items are intended solely for gift inspiration.

How many free gifts can I send?

You are not limited to the amount of gifts you can send; however, sending free gifts to fake or duplicate contacts is strictly prohibited. Promotion abuse is taken very seriously and will result in a permanent ban from the app.

Do I get anything for sending free gifts?

Not at the moment. Bitmo’s “Free Gifts” promotion is currently in beta as we plan for an exciting new rewards program. Stay tuned!

Why can’t I select a friend from my contacts list?

Free gifts cannot be sent to existing Bitmo users. To participate, you must have an active, verified Bitmo account. If you’ve synced your phone contacts and are experiencing an error, please verify you have a valid email address or phone number for your recipient and confirm they are not an existing Bitmo user. If you continue to have issues, please email support@bitmo.com.

Why didn’t the promo code work?

Recipients must sign up for Bitmo and complete an active, verified profile in order to redeem their promotion code. Free gift promotions are for new users only and limited to one per household. This promotion may not be redeemed if the user, or anyone in their household, has already taken part in other signup or referral promotions in the past.

Promo codes are one-time use only and their redemption is subject to Bitmo’s Terms of Service. While most gifts are delivered immediately, they can sometimes take 1-2 days to process if further review is deemed necessary by Bitmo’s compliance team. Gift recipients may contact support@bitmo.com for further assistance.

How do I send a gift?

First, add a payment method from the side menu then tap the card icon from the tab bar. Now it’s time to shop! Once you’ve chosen a gift, select a recipient from your contact list or enter a phone number or email address. Make the gift your own with a personal note and custom image or change the denomination by tapping the box that displays the gift value.

How do I add on to a gift?

This feature lets you acknowledge a friend’s special occasion or everyday moment with the tap of a button! To add $1 to someone else’s gift, tap the green circle below the gift image and follow the prompts. Keep in mind, you won’t be able to add $1 if any of the following conditions apply.

  • You are the gift’s original sender or recipient
  • You have already added $1 to the gift
  • The gift has reached its maximum value

How do I redeem a gift?

Tap the wallet icon from the tab bar, tap the applicable card, then tap the “redeem” icon. Spend it any time–your gift card will never expire! When you’re ready, simply present your barcode or card number/PIN to the cashier (you may have to clarify you’re paying with an “e-gift card”) or enter it online.

Keep in mind you won’t be able to exchange your gift card for another retailer once it has been redeemed and converted into a barcode.

How do I exchange a gift?

Tap the wallet icon from the tab bar, tap the applicable card, then tap the “exchange” icon. Bitmo will display all retailers that support a dollar-for-dollar exchange. If you can’t find the Bitmo retailer you’re looking for, it’s because the retailer doesn’t support your gift card’s value.

How do I pass on a gift?

Tap the wallet icon from the tab bar, tap the applicable card, then tap the “pass on” icon. This feature allows you to regift an unused/unwanted gift card. Simply choose a new recipient, add a personal note, and send it off. Neither the original sender nor your new recipient will ever know! Your secret’s safe with us.

What happens if my recipient never signs up?

When you send a gift to someone who has not yet signed up for the Bitmo app, your recipient will receive an invitation to join. Gift recipients have two weeks to sign up before the invitation expires. Don’t worry–we’ll send them reminders. If the recipient doesn’t accept your gift by signing up for Bitmo, the gift will be cancelled and the applicable credit will be refunded to your payment account.

Note, refunds do not include promotional gift credits used to send a gift.

Why is my gift pending?

While most gifts are available for immediate use, some may require additional time for processing. Please wait at least two business days from the date your gift was delivered before inquiring about its status. In most cases, the gift will be processed automatically.

Why didn’t my gift card work? Help!

Redemption instructions vary based on the retailer and, in some cases, the retailer’s specific location. If the cashier is unable to scan your barcode, you might try enlarging it on your screen. It might help to specify that you’re using an e-gift card, not a coupon. You can also provide the cashier with your gift card number for manual entry.

Where can I manage my gift activity?

View all gifts sent to/from you by tapping “my activity” on the main menu. If you have questions about the status of a gift, please email support@bitmo.com with the following details: gift card retailer, gift amount, sent or received date, and the sender or recipient name.

How do I add a payment method?

Select your bank from our list of financial institutions. Then log in with your username and password the same way you would on your bank’s website or app. Your bank may require multi-factor authentication such as a PIN, security question, or unique code. Be sure to follow all prompts to complete the verification process. If you have trouble logging in, contact your bank to reset your login credentials.

How do I remove or change a payment method?

From the main menu, tap “payment methods.” To remove a payment method, swipe left on the account you wish to delete. To change your default payment method, tap the account you wish to select or add a new payment method.

Do I have to add a bank account?

At the moment, acceptable payment methods include personal checking/savings accounts and Bitmo gift credits. While Bitmo may support additional payment methods in the future (credit cards, PayPal, bitcoin, etc.) we’ve found that bank account verification processes provide our users with the best security. Electronic funds transfers also allow us to keep costs down so that we can provide you with free gift card services.

What are gift credits?

Gift credits are funds that can be used as a full or partial payment of a gift. You can use them to send gifts to yourself or others. Bitmo reserves the right to revoke credits for any reason including non-use, misuse, and suspicious account activity.
