1. What’s a “bitmo?”
A bitmo is an electronic gift card. In fact, you’ll see us use the terms “bitmo” and “gift” or “gift card” interchangeably.
2. Where can I use Bitmo?
Most Bitmo retailers are available nationwide. If you’re unable to redeem a gift card due to the retailer’s geographic locations, you may exchange it for another retailer free of charge.

Bitmo is available as a free download on the App Store for iOS 9-compatible mobile devices. Bitmo will release a beta version for Android in September 2017. Look for it on Google Play!
Bitmo is not available on desktop.
2. How do I create an account?
Create an account in seconds with your name, phone number, address, and date of birth. Because account security is our top priority, we need to do our due diligence and make sure you’re a real person.
3. Is my account information secure?
Bitmo is committed to protecting your security through the use of bank-grade encryption technology. Bitmo collects personal profile information in order to verify your identity and protect you from fraud. Bitmo does not sell your personal information. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insures your unredeemed gift balances up to $250,000.
Sending & Receiving
1. How do I send a bitmo?
First, add a payment method then swipe up or tap the Bitmo icon located at the bottom of the activity feed. Select a recipient from your contact list or enter a phone number or email address. Now it’s time to shop! Once you’ve chosen a gift, you can make it your own with a personal note and custom image. Just tap on the respective box to edit gift details. You can also tap the box that displays the gift value to change the denomination.
2. How do I add on to a bitmo?
Bitmo lets you add $1 to existing gifts you come across on the feed. To add on to someone else’s gift, tap the green circle below the gift image and follow the prompts. Similar to a Facebook “like,” this feature allows you to acknowledge a friend’s special occasion or everyday moment with the tap of a button. Keep in mind, you won’t be able to add $1 if any of the following conditions apply.
- You are the gift’s original sender or recipient
- You have already added $1 to the gift
- The gift has reached its maximum value
3. How do I redeem a bitmo?
Open your Bitmo wallet from the tab bar, tap the applicable card, then tap the “redeem” icon. When it comes time to pay, simply present your barcode or card number/PIN to the cashier. Keep in mind you won’t be able to exchange your gift card for another retailer once it has been redeemed and converted into a barcode.
4. How do I exchange a bitmo?
Open your Bitmo wallet from the tab bar, tap the applicable card, then tap the “exchange” icon. Bitmo will display all retailers that support a dollar-for-dollar exchange. If you can’t find the Bitmo retailer you’re looking for, it’s likely the retailer does not support the gift card value.
5. How do I pass on a bitmo?
Open your Bitmo wallet from the tab bar, tap the applicable card, then tap the “pass on” icon. This feature allows you to regift an unused/unwanted gift card. Simply choose a new recipient, add a personal note, and send it off. Neither the original sender nor your new recipient will ever know! Your secret’s safe with us.
6. What happens if my recipient never signs up?
When a bitmo is sent to someone who has not yet signed up for the app, the gift notification includes an invitation to join. Gift recipients have two weeks to sign up before the invitation expires and, yes, they will receive reminders. If the recipient does not accept your gift by signing up for Bitmo, the gift will be cancelled and applicable credits will be refunded to your payment account.
Note, refunds do not include promotional gift credits used to send a gift.
7. Why is my gift pending?
While most gifts are available for immediate use, some may require additional time for processing. Please wait at least two business days from the date your gift was delivered before inquiring about its status. In most cases, the gift will be processed automatically.
8. Why didn’t my gift card work? Help!
Redemption instructions vary based on the retailer and, in some cases, the retailer’s specific location. If the cashier is unable to scan your barcode, you can try enlarging it on your screen. It might help to specify that you’re using an e-gift card, not a coupon. You can also provide the cashier with your gift card number for manual entry.
9. Where can I manage my gift activity?
View all gifts sent to/from you by tapping “my activity” on the main menu. If you have questions about the status of a gift, please email email@example.com with the following details: gift card retailer, gift amount, sent or received date, and the sender or recipient name.
1. How do I add a payment method?
Select your bank from our list of financial institutions. Then log in with your username and password the same way you would on your bank’s website or app. Your bank may require multi-factor authentication such as a PIN, security question, or unique code. Be sure to follow all prompts to complete the verification process. If you have trouble logging in, contact your bank to reset your login credentials.
2. How do I remove or change a payment method?
From the main menu, tap “payment methods.” To remove a payment method, swipe left on the account you wish to delete. To change your default payment method, tap the account you wish to select or add a new payment method.
3. Do I have to add a bank account?
At the moment, acceptable payment methods include personal checking/savings accounts and gift credits. While Bitmo may support additional payment methods in the future (credit cards, PayPal, bitcoin, etc.) we’ve found that bank account verification processes provide our users with the best security. Electronic funds transfers also allow us to keep costs down so that we can provide you with free gift card services.
4. What are gift credits?
Gift credits are funds that can be used as a full or partial payment of a gift. Gift credit balances will appear on the tab bar. Unless otherwise stated as part of a promotion, gift credits cannot be used for gifts sent to oneself. Gift credits can be revoked at Bitmo’s discretion for any reason including non-use, misuse, and suspicious account activity.
